about us
The Cochrane Minor Soccer Club was incorporated as a not-for-profit organization in 2023.
Our board of directors is comprised of volunteers, and we rely on the generous contributions of volunteer coaches and community sponsors.
what guides us
The Cochrane Minor Soccer Club is a member of the Greater North Soccer Association, Ontario Soccer, and Canada Soccer.
On top of meeting the expectations of membership with our governing organizations, we are committed to providing a soccer program that is safe, enjoyable, developmentally appropriate, accessible, inclusive, and welcoming,
we are Safe
We adhere to the Canada Soccer Code of Conduct and Ethics and to the Ontario Soccer Code of Conduct and Ethics.
We have also developed our own policies related to safety, namely our Code of Conduct and our Code of Conduct to Protect Children. Our Child Protection Code of Conduct provides guidelines for appropriate and inappropriate conduct between adults and children, requires that any suspicion of child abuse is reported to law enforcement, and outlines what to do if you witness inappropriate conduct.
We also support the Coaches Association of Canada Responsible Coaching Movement, have a Rule of Two Policy, require coaches to complete Respect in Sport Activity Leader training, and require team personnel to complete background screening.
we are enjoyable
Enjoyment is at the heart of our club’s philosophy. Players who have fun stay in the game longer, and long-term participation builds not only better athletes, but healthier, more confident people.
We believe that when players love coming to soccer, they develop skills more naturally, form friendships, and build lifelong connections to sport and community.
To ensure our programs are enjoyable and sustainable, we:
• Deliver developmentally appropriate, game-centered sessions that emphasize fun and inclusion.
• Support coaches through Canada Soccer’s education pathways to promote positive, encouraging instruction.
• Create safe, welcoming spaces for players of all abilities to learn and belong.
• Gather regular feedback from players and families about their experience and level of enjoyment.
• Track season-to-season retention rates as a key measure of program success. Retention matters to us because it reflects trust, satisfaction, and community connection.
we are developmentally appropriate
We are committed to being developmentally appropriate. Our programs are built around Canada Soccer’s Long-Term Player Development (LTPD) model, ensuring every player trains and competes in ways that match their physical, technical, and emotional stage.
Younger players learn through small-sided games, lots of touches, and play-based activities, while older players are guided toward teamwork, tactical understanding, and leadership.
By creating the right environment for each stage, we help players grow their skills, love the game, and stay involved for years to come.
we are accessible, inclusive, and welcoming
We aim to create an environment where everyone feels they belong and can succeed. We recognize that every individual brings unique experiences, abilities, and perspectives to the game, and we are committed to ensuring that soccer in our community reflects that diversity.
Our commitment includes:
• Reducing barriers to participation through fair fee structures and financial assistance options
• Creating inclusive spaces that welcome players of all genders, backgrounds, and abilities, including adaptive and introductory programs.
• Providing safe, respectful environments through adherence to Canada Soccer’s Safe Sport principles and our club’s Code of Conduct.
